Associate Attorneys
Gislason & Hunter offers an engaging experience for its associate attorneys, emphasizing a blend of professionalism and camaraderie. The firm values its associates, providing a competitive starting salary of $95,000 in Mankato and New Ulm, accompanied by a robust benefits package. With a focus on work-life balance, associates are expected to achieve a minimum of 1600 billable hours annually while enjoying flexible work arrangements, casual dress most days, and a friendly, non-hierarchical culture. The partnership track typically spans five to seven years, and the firm encourages pro bono work and community involvement. Gislason & Hunter fosters a close-knit community, with attorneys and staff often socializing outside of work, engaging in activities such as golf outings, “early outs,” and quarterly socials in New Ulm, and Friday happy hours in Mankato, all while being deeply involved in the Southern Minnesota community.
Law Students
Gislason & Hunter maintains a summer law clerk program for summer associates to join our Mankato and New Ulm offices. We strive to provide “real world” work and show you what it is like to live and practice in Southern Minnesota. You will have an opportunity not just to see the practice of law in action, but also to get to know our attorneys and staff through several planned and impromptu outings. Our summer associates are expected to contribute and assist in reaching our client’s goals while fully taking advantage of the opportunity to shadow and learn the ropes on how to actually practice law.
Paralegals, Legal Administrative Assistants (LAAs), and Administrative Staff
Many of our staff have been with the firm for most of their career. Most started as entry-level LAA or receptionists and were promoted to the position they currently occupy. We rely on our staff to become intimately familiar with our clients’ needs and some clients couldn’t live without the help and support they provide.
Gislason & Hunter values our legal staff as key members of our community. We provide numerous training opportunities from paid-for continuing education to in-house “lunch and learns” designed to provide nuts and bolts training as well as address more complex issues on the law, technology, and other topics.
